Good afternoon,
I have sent 2 math evaluations home today and have asked that they be signed by parents. The students completed the same tests in October and again over the last 2 days. I'm thrilled with the results. There seems to be a lot of learning going on in Grade 5.
Also please remember that the science projects are due Friday, April 4, 2008. The students will need to practice the presentation portion of the project over the weekend as we'll start Monday with the oral portion.
Over the last couple of days we've been concentrating on reading comprehension. The students are having some difficulty so if parents have the time, please ask your children some questions about the books they're reading at night, even the English ones - modeling how to find the answers is so important.
Thanks again for all your help.

Reminder - Grade 5FI

Hi,
Just a reminder that the science projects are due this coming Friday, April 4, 2008 - no exceptions. Please let me review your 'question' for the project, if I have not already done so on Monday. I would also like to see the progress of your project Monday afternoon so please ensure your work is at school.
We will be writing the math 'assessment' again this week - the one we wrote at the beginning of the year. This will let us see how much progress has been made in Math.
Enjoy the weekend. Mme Hamilton-Brown

I have had students mention to me that they did not have any homework. I expect that students are reading 20 minutes a night in Freanch and they should also be enjoying an English book. They should be studying the multipliction facts if there is no Math homework, per say. Thank you and please keep up the great effort.

Hi,Today was a busy day in the Grade 5 French Immersion class, although we were missing 8 students. This morning we worked primarily on writing. Using good ideas with strong sentence structure and watching for good use of the verb 'aller' as a verb that uses etre as an auxiliary in the past tense. After lunch we spent a lot of time discussing a quality science fair project. Parents please help your children work to develop a strong question for the reason to investigate and do a science project. The question needs to be supported by a hypothesis - or what the students think the answer to the question is. Then the experiment itself is the proof. Don't forget science fair projects are due for presentation to the class on April 4, 2008.The only homework today was to think about the science project and to read, of course, for 20 minutes.I'm out tomorrow but I expect appropriate behaviour for the Sub Teacher. Those students who are involved in tutoring tomorrow evening please take your Math text book, pencil and paper. Do page 148/9 and start page 146/7.Thanks and good evening. See you all on Wednesday.

Homework for FI grade 5 over March Break

Please read, in French, at least 20 minutes a day.
Please be thinking and talking about possible science fair projects; remember projects should be original and should be a response to a pre-determined question. ie. I wonder why....? or I wonder how...? etc. We will certainly talk more about this directly after the break.
Most of all, enjoy!!!! the break and come back to school prepared to do a lot of writing and exciting Math.

Elementary Science Fair information

It has been decided that the Elementary Science Fair will be held the week of 14 April, 2008. All Grade 5 students are required to participate and Grade 3-4 will do so on a voluntary basis.

Therefore my class (5 H-B FI) will be required to have projects completed 4 April, 2008.
